Infrared Test

Infrared testing measures surface temperatures by using infrared cameras. Infrared scans are also used with a blower door test running which helps exaggerate air leaking through defects in the building shell. Such air leaks appear as black streaks in the infrared camera's viewfinder.

IES technicians use Infrared scans as a tool to help detect heat losses and air leakage in building envelopes. Infrared scanning allows us to check the effectiveness of insulation in a building's construction.

The resulting thermograms help us determine whether a home needs insulation and where in the building it should go. Because wet insulation conducts heat faster than dry insulation, thermographic scans of roofs can often detect roof leaks.

Green Facts

Cellulose fiber insulation is “green.” and is made of 80% post consumer used recycled newsprint. The cellulose fiber is chemically treated with non-toxic borate compounds to resist fire, insects & mold.
If all new homes were insulated with cellulose this would remove 3.2 million tons of newsprint from the nation’s waste stream each year. Fewer than 10% of the homes built today use cellulose insulation.
